FMC (Food Machinery Corporation) was a significant builder of many of these cars. The 50’ outside post, non-terminating end box car, became the foundation for new per diem cars built in the 1970s. The 50’ FMC cars also varied in door configuration and style to better suit each customer. These models can still be seen today in the modern railroading scene.

DC locomotive || with NEM 21-pin socket for DCC and DCC/sound conversion
Union Pacific was the largest buyer of the SD90MAC with 309 units total; the railroad designation was SD9043AC as they were delivered with the 710G engine rated at 4300hp. Taking delivery of the first locomotives in 1995 and the last in 1999; originally numbered in the 8000 series, these locomotives were renumbered in 2012 and some are still in service today. 3681 is one of only a few SD90MACs to receive the flag paint scheme.

Union Pacific, UP #8044
DCC/sound | SoundTraxx Tsunami
During the horsepower race of the 1990’s, EMD offered an “upgradable” SD90MAC. EMD’s 6000hp 256H prime mover was still being tested for reliability and issues at the time and UP needed power quickly. To combat this, EMD offered the SD90 with the 4300hp 710 prime mover in it’s place until the 256H prime mover was ready to be installed after successful testing. Unfortunately, the 256H was deemed too problematic and the conversion was never completed. UP classed these as SD9043MAC’s. They were factory delivered with the “We Will Deliver” slogan.

The Chicago & Northwestern RR Dash 9-44CW locomotives were the first production order of Dash 9s from GE with delivery beginning in late 1993. C&NW initially came without A/C units and a roof vent but were later modified to have A/C. Our models depict the As-Delivered configuration for the C&NW modelers who depict this great railroad right up to the C&NW/UP merger.
[ATHG31523] DC standard / DCC Ready 21-pin socket
One of Union Pacific’s hallmarks is their eclectic collection of motive power. However, the venerable Dash 9 of the time was ordered in few numbers by the UP - only 40 to be exact. Here we have 4 of those examples depicted late in their careers; repainted “lightning stripe” scheme, yellow frame stripe and wings on the nose. These unique repaints have many nuances; chiefly, they do not feature the American flag on their flanks.

BCOL #4650
BC Rail
DC / DCC ready with 21-pin NEM socket
Delivered in 2000, these Dash 9-44CWs were the first and only units delivered to BC Rail with the standard GE wide cab- albeit with the “teardrop” style front cab windows. Being the road’s newest engines, they were used in all types of heavy freight service. In 2004, BC Rail was leased for 60 years to CN, so the units can now be spotted running with a variety of CN power.

BNSF #4982
Burlington Northern Santa Fe
DCC/sound (21-pin NEM socket)
The power-short Burlington Northern Santa Fe placed some of these 1998-built units immediately into service without their stripes and logos. A simple black road number and reporting mark adorned the cab sides. Along with the multitude of Superfleet, Cascade Green and Freightbonnet units running around at the time, it made for some truly colorful lashups of power!

In 1984, EMD unveiled the first four SD60 demonstrator locomotives. The SD60 was equipped with a 3,800 horsepower, 16 cylinder, turbocharged 710G3A prime mover. Five years later, EMD began offering the SD60 with the wide nose “safety” cab with the infamous “Tri-Clops” 3-piece windshield, thus creating the SD60M. Union Pacific was the first road to order these new SD60M locomotives followed by Burlington Northern and SOO Line. BN’s SD60M locomotives went on to the merged BNSF while the SOO Line units went to Canadian Pacific. Some of the BNSF units found more mileage with Norfolk Southern and in lease service for CEFX.
