D10h Steam Freight Locomotive
CPR #1027

MSRP: $599.95 CAD

DCC/Sound by ESU LokSound

The D10-class Ten Wheeler was the most numerous class of steam locomotive not only for the CPR but in Canada. Five hundred and two of these useful 4-6-0s were built between 1905 and 1913, and many lasted until the end of CP steam service in 1961. D10s were employed in freight and passenger work across Canada and into the United States on CP’s many lines. There is truly no more useful locomotive for any steam era CPR layout than the D10.

Krauss-Maffei of Germany worked closely with the Southern Pacific and the Denver & Rio Grande to develop a revolutionary new diesel-hydraulic locomotive. At the start of the 1960s, these beasts packed 4000 horsepower, a feat that would not be matched by American Diesel locomotive builders for many years. Typical American diesels of the time had only 2000 HP or less.                   .............../ continue below

The biggest difference, perhaps, was the large “BNSF” lettering on the hood, where “Santa Fe” used to reside. Opinions differed on the look, but no one could argue that the face of an iconic railroad had changed forever!

DCC/Sound by ESU LokSound

EMD’s E-8 (and successor, E-9) were the quintessential North American passenger locomotive of the 1950s through the 1970s. 450 E8A and 46 E8B units were produced, with an additional 100 E9A and 44 E9B locos following. The first E8s were delivered in 1949, with the last E9 being produced in 1964. These units pulled passenger trains from coast to coast, and later became the backbone of Amtrak’s fleet in its early days. Many more were later used in commuter service before being retired. Today several units live on in museums and tourist railroads throughout North America.

Athearn GENESIS G2 HO | Dash 9-44CW, UP #9719

[ATHG31523] DC standard / DCC Ready 21-pin socket

One of Union Pacific’s hallmarks is their eclectic collection of motive power. However, the venerable Dash 9 of the time was ordered in few numbers by the UP - only 40 to be exact. Here we have 4 of those examples depicted late in their careers; repainted “lightning stripe” scheme, yellow frame stripe and wings on the nose. These unique repaints have many nuances; chiefly, they do not feature the American flag on their flanks.

Our models depict the As-Delivered configuration for the C&NW modelers who depict this great railroad right up to the C&NW/UP merger.

Athearn GENESIS G2 HO | SD60M Tri-Clops, UP #6237

[ATHG75515]

$249.98 USD

In 1984, EMD unveiled the first four SD60 demonstrator locomotives. The SD60 was equipped with a 3,800 horsepower, 16 cylinder, turbocharged 710G3A prime mover. Five years later, EMD began offering the SD60 with the wide nose “safety” cab with the infamous “Tri-Clops” 3-piece windshield, thus creating the SD60M. Union Pacific was the first road to order these new SD60M locomotives followed by Burlington Northern and SOO Line. BN’s SD60M locomotives went on to the merged BNSF while the SOO Line units went to Canadian Pacific. Some of the BNSF units found more mileage with Norfolk Southern and in lease service for CEFX.
