Flour mills have changed dramatically since the water-powered mills of the 1800s. When steam ruled the rails, the prototypes for the Walthers Cornerstone Concrete Coaling Tower were familiar sights at every engine terminal. Some also stood alone on main lines, ready to service passing trains that might require refueling along the way. While early designs were made of wood, later models were made of fire-proof concrete. Hoppers of coal would be spotted for unloading above a covered dump pit. Lifting machinery hauled he coal to the top, where it was stored in the bin. Gravity and positionable chutes took over, delivering a steady stream of coal into waiting tenders below.

The Walthers Cornerstone Superior Paper Mill kit will be the heart of a paper mill complex along your railroad. Paper mills are some of the busiest spots along the railroads that serve them. Tons of raw materials arrive at the paper mill complex in specialized cars including woodchip gondolas and pulpwood flats, along with a variety of chemicals and slurries that are shipped in tank cars. Finished products are also shipped by rail, typically in special service boxcars.

The Walthers Cornerstone 3-Stall Modern Roundhouse will be a hallmark of later steam-era railroading on your HO layout. If you model the diesel era you'll also find this kit to be a centerpiece of your servicing facility since some of these classics are still used today for servicing diesels. No matter the weather, workers could easily inspect and service locos under cover. Sure to be the focal point of any HO Scale engine terminal, this Walthers Cornerstone 110' Motorized Turntable is where steam locomotives, and later diesels, were turned around at the end of their runs. Normally serving a roundhouse, turntables were placed adjoining the roundhouse, servicing tracks and at major terminals, backshops. This 110' turntable is large enough to turn larger locomotives such as a 4-8-4 Northerns and 2-10-2s. It'll look great at your locomotive terminal, at junctions and anywhere else medium-sized steam locomotives must be turned.

The Walthers Cornerstone HO Scale Grain Conveyor is an ideal addition to any diesel-era grain elevator or feed mill scene. Conveyor "legs," or elevators, lift wet and dry grain using an endless bucket conveyor. At the top, the funnel-shaped distribution head routes grain into the proper pipe, sending it cascading into storage bins, surge bin, covered hopper or grain truck. A typical grain operation has two or more legs, with at least one each dedicated to incoming wet or outbound dry grain.
