Based on a typical two-track design, the Walthers Cornerstone Wood Coaling Tower will be a focal point in any engine terminal. Towers like this were built in yards at servicing facilities as well as along the mainlines and branchlines to refuel engines on the road. A hopper unloading shed sits along one side for receiving coal. Like the prototype, it can serve two tracks at once, making it an ideal choice for maximizing service in minimum space.

The Walthers Cornerstone Grain Surge Bin is an ideal addition to any diesel-era grain elevator or feed mill scene. Above the surge bin, the funnel-shaped distribution head of the grain conveyor routes grain into the proper pipe, sending it cascading into storage bins, surge bin, covered hopper or grain truck. The surge bin regulates the flow of grain into the grain dryer. The surge bin is a necessary part of any grain handling operation and will add realism to your scene.

The Walthers Cornerstone Icehouse and Icing Platform brings back the heady days of railroading when fast freights forwarded meat and produce to market in ice-cooled reefers. From the 1880s to the 1970s, ice-cooled reefers were a fixture of railroading. Solid trains raced across country with their perishable loads riding in long strings of refrigerator cars. Supplying ice for the cars in transit was a huge industry. Railroads built ice houses and platforms, like this kit, about every 250-300 miles. Coal Flood Loader -- Kit

The Walthers Cornerstone HO Scale Coal Flood Loader kit is based on a hopper car loading structure in use since the 1970s. The energy crunch of the early 70s and the move toward improved air quality left coal-fired power plants and other industries in need of clean-burning, low sulfur coal. Vast deposits were available in the western US, but getting coal to customers was a big logistical problem. Several ideas were suggested, but in the end, railroads became the primary means of transport. Coal soon represented a considerable part of the traffic on many lines.

The superdetailed kit includes a main fractionating tower, furnace, piping group and heat exchangers, vacuum pipe still and decal warning signs. Additional piping, safety caged ladders, platforms and photo-etched brass handrails are also included to make your model more realistic.
