Union Pacific unveiled 6 SD70ACe locomotives with unique “Heritage” paint schemes in 2005 and 2006 to commemorate roads which they had absorbed or merged. These roads are the MP, WP, MKT, SP, DRGW, and CNW. The locomotives are numbered after the years which the mergers took place, or, in the case of the DRGW unit, the year that Rio Grande Industries acquired the assets of Southern Pacific.

ALCO built the RS-3 to respond to competition with EMD, Fairbanks-Morse, and Baldwin Locomotive Works. In the case of ALCO, the builder added more improvements to create new locomotive lines beyond the RS-2. ALCO produced 377 RS-2s versus the more successful RS-3s at 1,418.

The new model produced slightly more horsepower than the earlier design at 1,600 hp using Alco’s 12-cylinder, model 244 prime mover. Visually, the RS3 very similar to the RS2. Some railroads elected to employ theirs RS3 diesels in passenger/commuter service. It was appreciated for its versatility and reliability. RS3s were one of Alco’s shops more popular locomotives.

This is a reproduction of the first H0 Gauge Crocodile prototype ever made at Märklin from 1936. The frame and body are constructed of die-cast zinc. Both trucks are powered with jackshafts and side rods. The locomotive has a factory-installed mfx decoder, so that it can be used on present day layouts. Sufficient clearance must be ensured due to the reproduction of this historic sample. The headlights change over with the direction of travel and will work in analog operation. There are sprung pantographs without an electrical function.

On many cars, the Soo Line used reporting marks that ended in odd numbers, such as the case for this group of cars. These 6 numbers represent cars delivered in the original light gray paint with the right two full panels in blue and a small Colormark logo applied.

Union Pacific GE 8500 Horsepower "Big Blow" Turbine #30

These are the hallmarks of the Union Pacific Railroad’s unique GTEL 8500 Horsepower Turbine locomotives. Often called “Big Blows” because of their deafening noise, they roamed the less populated landscape between Council Bluffs, IA and Ogden, UT. 30 three unit sets were built between 1958 and 1961 and all were retired by the early 1970s.
